If only I had a pound for the amount of times I’m asked about getting rid of blackheads!
I will start by saying that everyone will have blackheads at some point in their life since we all naturally secret oil from our pores. When this oil is allowed to build up it then oxidises with exposure to daily O2 and turns black.
So my first tip is to use a Salicylic based exfoliant which you can find in the form of a toner, pad, lotion or mask. This wonderful ingredient will whizz through the oil in the pore and help to rid you of the problem.
To extract or not to extract?
Always in the hands of a professional since we can prepare the skin suitably and gently! work the plug of oil from the pore giving you a truly deep pore cleanse. If you do attempt extraction at home always make sure your skin and hands are clean and ideally perform after a warm shower or bath when the steam would have opened the pores.
Prevention comes in the guise of regular, gentle exfoliation and also the use of antioxidants in your skincare since this will also prevent that oxidisation process and ‘blackening’ of the plug of oil.
