Q and A with Skin Therapist U & Your Skin Founder Louise

ULTIMATE WELL-BEING TIP :
‘ Lose the guilt surrounding taking time out to ‘just be’. I feel blessed to be a driven person but I constantly have to battle to just stop, rest & be sometimes.’

GREATEST INSPIRATION :
‘ This would be my first proper employer of the beauty salon that I started working at at the age of 16 & went onto manage. She was a real mentor to me & taught me not only so much about the industry I was in at the time but also about life. There are still habits & tastes in things that I have that I have her to thank (Veuve cliquot champagne & Issy Myiake perfume are a couple). Sadly she lost a recurring battle with breast cancer a few years ago but was so inspirational when she was going through her illness to the point that we often didn’t even know she was! Thank you Jill for helping me to be the person I am today.

BEST ADVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED :
‘ Follow your gut instinct! I’ve ignored it a couple of times so far in my life & it was one of the worst things I could have done. Now I always listen to it even if my head is saying the complete opposite.’

FAVE WORKOUT :
‘ I LOVE Pilates. As an ex dancer I connected with this practice instantly about 13 years ago I used it whilst pregnant too when other exercise might have seemed a bit off limits. I’m looking forward to getting back to some running too though.’

FITNESS ESSENTIALS :
‘ My Yoga mat & my good friend Kristin McGees amazing Yoga & Pilates DVD’s as even if I only have 15 minutes I can feel like I’ve worked my body’.

GO-TO BREAKFAST :
‘ I always have a two course breakfast. A green smoothie blended in my Nutribullet followed by Sardines on rye bread toast is one of my favourites. Delicious!’

FAVE JUICE/SMOOTHIE
‘ My morning green smoothie. Watercress, Spinach, Avocado, Carrot, Blueberries, Chia seeds, bee pollen, cinnamon, a heaped teaspoon of Pukka clean greens powder, almond milk & water.’

FOR GUESTS I COOK :
‘ Oooo I’m a bit of a one pot girl so after a starter involving some local smoked salmon fillets it would probably be a Chicken cacciatore served with nutty brown rice & a big green salad.’

RESTAURANT(S) I LOVE :
‘ In my home City of Norwich it would be Roger Hickmans for a fine dining treat. In London I like the Fish dishes at Kensington Place, in Paris I love Buvette & in New York Penelope’s is great for anytime of the day casual dining.

KITCHEN ESSENTIALS :
‘ My Nutribullet. What did I do before?!’

GUILTY PLEASURE(S) :
‘ Watching E News & a good slice of Carrot Cake.’

ON MY BEDSIDE TABLE :
‘ Aside from a stack of books & some ‘This Works’ sleep spray a photo of me & my husband at the Races.’

ULTIMATE GETAWAY :
‘ New York! I’ve been very blessed to have racked up some fabulous travel destinations but New York always has a special place in my heart. The sooner we open U & your skin NYC the better ☺️.’

TOP 5 BEAUTY MUST-HAVES :
‘ Hmmm tricky…A great cleanser I love Elena Rubins Veritas cleansing bar. We’re the only UK stockists currently. Burts Bees bump butter is a must for me at the moment & any Mum to be, Mascara! I can’t live without it! I’m currently using a Benefits one, Solgar Magnesium supplements to help balance your beauty sleep & Aromatherapy Associates bath oils…heavenly…’

ALL-TIME BEAUTY TIP :
‘ Massage your skin. Even if it’s for just 30 seconds when applying your moisturiser, it’s benefits are endless & forms such an integral part of our facial philosophy.’

BEST DETOX TIP :
‘ Cut the ‘CRAP’ Caffeine, Refined sugar, Alcohol & processed foods. This statement is easy to remember & has stuck with me. I like to live the 80/20 rule.’

HEALTH ADVICE THAT REALLY WORKS – AND THE ONES TO AVOID :
‘ The one above for me. I’ve restricted my diet drastically in the past but find that living clean 80% of the time! & moving daily is the best for health & sanity. I hate any ‘diets’ far too much pressure! & often providing poor nutritional choices anything that promotes a points system or counting calories is bad in my opinion.’

HEALTH PHILOSOPHY IN ONE SENTENCE :
‘ If you don’t look after yourself you can’t look after others.’

HOW DO I CREATE BALANCE :
‘ Understanding that I’m an all or nothing person & having experienced adrenal fatigue & my body crashing severely, I now know the importance of listening to my body & striking a balance in everything I do from my work, business, exercise, diet & personal life. I have a technology curfew & try to practise mindfulness as much as I can.’
